If there’s one takeaway from the past two weeks in the gaming world, it’s this: Wokeness is losing its extra lives, and the gaming industry is finally hitting the respawn button. Two "woke" games have face-planted on launch, while a game proudly flying the anti-woke banner is absolutely crushing it. Coincidence? I think not.

Let’s start with the comedy of errors, shall we?

First up, we have “Concord,” the latest shooter from Sony Entertainment, poised to be one of the biggest flops in gaming history. On its grand launch day—cue the sad trombone—it managed a whopping 697 concurrent players worldwide. Now, that number has nosedived to an average of just over 100 players at any given time. Ouch.

While Sony is probably keeping the exact budget of “Concord” under wraps (can you blame them?), estimates for similar games range from $50 million to $200 million. Given its tragic sales numbers, "Concord" hasn’t come close to breaking even.

To really appreciate the scale of this catastrophe, let’s look at another recent woke disaster: Rocksteady’s “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.” This gem debuted with a relatively bustling 13,000 players and still managed to lose $200 million. Yep, you read that right. Players playing it at the same time (as of this post's publishing) added up to only 697.

“Suicide Squad” was massively panned for its “woke” elements, like a lesbian, race-swapped version of Batman villain Mister Freeze—an invention courtesy of the progressive brain trust at Sweet Baby Inc. But “Concord” takes the cake, with a gallery of DEI characters all proudly waving their pronouns like battle flags. Judging by the character design, this game wasn’t made for your average gamer—it was tailor-made for a specific, radical left-leaning audience. There are more pronouns in this game than people in China!

Dustborn: Woke Fail Train, Next Stop

Right behind “Concord” on the woke express is “Dustborn.” This one’s a doozy. Described by Forbes as “among the most unrepentantly liberal and left-leaning games out there,” it almost feels like satire. Unfortunately, it’s not. According to the developers, they were deeply “influenced by a series of political events” dating back to 2016. Ah, 2016, the year everyone apparently lost their minds.

Right from the opening moments of “Dustborn,” players are treated to a musical number about how native citizens “won’t last” and will “be replaced” by refugees. Because that’s what every gamer dreams of—a politically charged sing-along. Not to mention the game’s other “woke” delights, like the ability to cancel and bully opponents or call people racists. Sounds like a blast, doesn’t it?

“Dustborn,” unsurprisingly, flopped even harder than “Concord,” with an all-time peak of just 83 players. Currently, you’ll find about 20 to 30 brave souls slogging through it.

As these “woke” titles crash and burn, there’s been a resurgence of games that say, “Nah, we’re good,” to the progressive agenda. Case in point: “Black Myth: Wukong,” developed in China, which has sold an eye-popping 10 million copies in just three days. This game draws from the ancient Chinese classic "Journey to the West," filled with mythical creatures and epic battles. Notably missing? Forced diversity and the kind of politics that Western developers have recently embraced.

Gaming journalists are having a meltdown. Leftist outlet ScreenRant lamented the game’s “lack of inclusivity and diversity,” while Forbes reported that reviewers were asked to refrain from injecting “politics” or “feminist propaganda” into their reviews. Shocking! A game that just wants to be, well, a game.

While the gaming media tear their hair out, the numbers are crystal clear. “Concord” might just become a textbook example of what not to do in game development, while “Black Myth: Wukong” could set new sales records.

The Takeaway: Ditch the Woke, Save the Game

The colossal failures of “Concord” and “Dustborn” should serve as a wake-up call to game developers everywhere: Gamers don’t want to buy into these over-the-top woke disasters. Instead, focus on creating engaging content that gamers actually want, free from political sermons.

In gaming, as in life, the old adage holds true: Go woke, go broke. And judging by these recent flops, it seems like the gaming industry is finally starting to learn that lesson.
